The convention of placing north at the top on maps dates back to ancient times when cartographers used the North Star as a reference point for navigation. This practice has continued over the centuries and has become standardized in modern map-making. Placing north at the top allows for consistency and ease of orientation when reading maps, as most people are familiar with the concept of north as being "up" on a map. **

The convention of placing the North Pole at the top of maps and globes is largely due to historical and cultural reasons. Early mapmakers in the Northern Hemisphere placed the North Pole at the top because it was the direction of the North Star, which was used for navigation. Additionally, the concept of "up" being associated with power and importance may have also contributed to the placement of the North Pole at the top. Over time, this convention became standardized and is now widely accepted in modern cartography. **

Planes heading east often first fly north due to the Earth's rotation. The rotation of the Earth causes the atmosphere to move with it, creating what is known as the jet stream. Flying north allows planes to take advantage of the strong tailwinds in the jet stream, which can help increase their speed and fuel efficiency. Once the plane reaches the jet stream, it can then turn east and benefit from the tailwind as it travels in that direction. This route optimization helps airlines save time and fuel costs. **

No, Russia does not extradite North Korean refugees to North Korea. Russia is a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, which prohibits the refoulement of refugees to their home country where they may face persecution. As a result, Russia generally provides protection to North Korean refugees and does not send them back to North Korea. However, the situation for North Korean refugees in Russia can still be difficult, as they often face challenges in obtaining legal status and may be at risk of deportation to third countries. **

The North Sea is not called the North Ocean because it does not meet the criteria to be classified as an ocean. Oceans are larger and deeper bodies of saltwater that cover a significant portion of the Earth's surface, while the North Sea is a relatively small and shallow sea located between the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. Additionally, oceans are typically separated by continents, while the North Sea is connected to the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore, the North Sea is appropriately named a sea rather than an ocean. **
